Dear FUSS Community,
hereinafter you will find the latest modifications to the current release (FUSS 12) and the previous 2 releases (FUSS 10 and 11) which are going to lose our support during the current school year (the sooner - the better!).
We lately added these packages to the appropriate fuss-* metapackages:
- ardour: digital audio workstation and multichannel hard disk
recorder
- balena-etcher: powerful OS image flasher
- crypromator: software for client-side encryption of folders and
files.
- keepassxc: password manager
- minder: a good mindmapping tool (FUSS 11 and 12 only)
- mkvtoolnix: command line tools to work with Matroska multimedia
format
- musescore4 (FUSS 12 only): multiplatform and multilingual software
for musical notation
- onboard: on screen keyboard which can be also used on the login
interface (lightdm).
- openjdk-17-jdk (and related packages): Java Development Kit v. 17
(FUSS 11 and 12 only)
- thunderbird and some localization packages (de, it, en, es, fr):
very well known e-mail, calendar and contact client.
- tldr: command line tool to view the tldr pages which are a community
effort to simplify the beloved man pages with practical examples.
Furthermore, we found out why the keyboard layout couldn't be changed on the upper right part of the login screen. It was a bug in the package slick-greeter 1.6.1-1 still present in Debian 12. We tested version 2.0.1-1 from Debian 13 "trixie" since the bug was corrected there. It worked fine and we uploaded the updated slick-greeter package in archive.fuss.bz.it.
The missing on-screen-keyboard and the malfunctioning keyboard selection feature on the login interface were pointed out by Diego Maniacco a few days ago. Thanks Diego for pointing out these bugs and Claudio for finding the solution. This is how the FUSS community works together.
In order to update your FUSS installation, simply run as root
apt update
apt dist-upgrade
fuss-client --standalone --domain fuss.bz.it
We are working to automate the launch of the last command whenever the package fuss-client is updated.

L’installazione di FUSS 12 crea un buon supporto per le scuole primarie e secondarie di primo e secondo grado. Si trovano tutti i software office (libreoffice) e i più importanti software didattici relativi a singole materie o più in generale, mappe concettuali e mentali.
Comunque vorrei condividere alcuni suggerimenti per proporre uno schema di post installazione per fuss12 aperto a tutti gli utenti, non solo a quelli delle scuole. Ditemi cosa ne pensate.
Partizionamento disco
Partizionare i dischi con gpt e non più mbr, ormai tutti i pc su cui si opera hanno le minime condizioni per supportare un partizionamento gpt.
Utente guest
Utente guest da disabilitare per evitare confusioni che nella mia esperienza di schoolswap ho visto utilizzare spesso come utente principale con tutti i problemi del caso (es: dati persi). Nelle scuole il problema non si verifica perché si entra nel sistema solo con il proprio account e istruzioni del docente. Per questo durante schoolswap ogni volta che veniva consegnato un computer si faceva una brevissima introduzione su questi temi, anche se poi, nel passaggio da fuss10 a fuss11 lo avevamo già disabilitato.
Tools
Si dovrebbero installare alcuni tools per avere una maggiore disponibilità di opzioni per supportare schede di rete, bluetooth, controlli vari o per supporto da remoto.

Video conferenze e social
Zoom , Teams, Skype, Telegram, Signal o quant’ altro dovrebbero essere usati attraverso le loro funzionalità web senza ulteriori installazioni o comunque dovrebbe decidere l’utente se caricarli.
Cambio lingua (manuale)
Come esempio, passaggio da IT a DE:

Due cosette, dato che sono nuovo al mondo FUSS
- Fuss 12 verrà rilasciato anche in versione Lite?
La pagina web ancora ne parla ma non trovo il file.
Potrebbe forse essere ancora nteressante per usi desktop non scolastici (es normali usi casalinghi)
Magari con un meta-pacchetto per la parte edu che eventualmente l'utente possa scegliere se installare?
- Non riesco a postare in questa ML usando il normale client di posta in quanto mi torna sempre indietro con "mail del mittente non iscritta alla mailing list"
eppure la mail nel header è la stessa impostata nel profilo di hyperkitty.

We updated the kernel (6.1.55-1) and all packages.
New packages were added to fuss-software metapackages, not only to FUSS 12 but also to the two previous releases (10 and 11):
- ardour
- mkvtoolnix
- thunderbird + l10n packages for en, de, it, fr and es
- cryptomator
- tldr
